Recycling Program

Habitat for Humanity Halton's waste diversion programs generate thousands of dollars in revenue. Recycling has many benefits to the ReStore and the larger community. We are committed to continued growth of our environmental and ecological initiatives. Our programs were ramped up dramatically in 2010 thanks to the support of our valued partners, staff and volunteers.

Metal Recycling

Waste is diverted from the landfill and brought to a recycling facility on a weekly basis. The metal recycling program is our most successful.

Paper Recycling

Habitat for Humanity Halton has an Abitibi Paper Recycling bin located in its back parking lot and encourages everyone to drop off newspaper, catalogs, magazines, junk mail, office paper, fax paper, notebooks and folders in the bin.  Paper placed in the bin is sent directly to paper mills and is remanufactured into newsprint within a few weeks of collection.  The more paper in the bin, the more funds Habitat can raise for its programs.

E-waste Diversion

Habitat for Humanity Halton works in partnership with Sims Recycling Solutions Canada, to recycle computers and cell phones.  The items are refurbished and reused when possible, or recycled responsibly and locally when refurbishment is not possible.  Habitat is a collection site for Sims and you can assist us in earning fundraising dollars by bringing in your old computers, cell phones, and other electronics.
